Blizzard Entertainment has uncovered the upcoming Season 12 of Overwatch 2, titled “New Frontiers.” The latest update to the popular team-based shooter introduces an ancient Egypt theme, a new support hero, and exciting gameplay changes.

The star of Season 12 is undoubtedly Juno, the newest addition to the support roster. Players got a taste of Juno’s abilities during a recent trial weekend, and now they’ll have the chance to fully explore her potential. The development team has fine-tuned her skills based on player feedback, ensuring she’ll be a valuable asset to any team composition.

Cosmetic Offerings and Mythic Skin

Season 12 brings a wealth of new cosmetic options for players to enjoy. The Battle Pass and in-game shop will feature Egyptian-inspired skins for various heroes, including Mercy, Doomfist, Sigma, and Illari. Standout additions include a whimsical Dorothy/Tin Man ensemble for Ashe and a stunning golden outfit for Echo.

Reaper takes center stage with this season’s Mythic skin. The Anubis-themed outfit comes with three distinct styles, complete with unique voice lines and animations. This marks the second consecutive season where a Damage hero receives the coveted Mythic skin treatment.

Clash: A New Game Mode

One of the most exciting additions in Season 12 is the introduction of Clash, a fast-paced game mode that will keep players on their toes. Teams will battle for control over multiple capture points in intense, action-packed matches. To complement this new mode, Blizzard has reimagined two fan-favorite maps: Temple of Anubis and Hanaoka. These locations have been completely reworked to suit the Clash gameplay style while maintaining the essence of their original designs.

Balance Changes and Hero Updates

Season 12 will implement various balance adjustments, including health reductions for select Damage and Support heroes. Lifeweaver, in particular, will receive some updates to improve his overall performance. Additionally, players can look forward to new Hero Mastery Missions for Zarya and Pharah, providing opportunities to hone their skills with these characters.

World of Warcraft Crossover Tease

The Season 12 trailer concludes with an intriguing tease that has caught the attention of many fans. A brief glimpse of a large, blue broadsword bears a striking resemblance to Frostmourne, the iconic weapon wielded by the Lich King in World of Warcraft. This hint suggests an upcoming crossover event between Blizzard’s two popular franchises, following the success of last season’s Transformers collaboration.

Anniversary Event and Xbox Game Pass Promotion

As Season 12 unfolds, players can look forward to the 2024 Anniversary Event, which will bring its own set of rewards and challenges. Xbox Game Pass subscribers have an extra reason to celebrate, as a special promotion starting September 17 will grant them access to exclusive cosmetic items, including the beloved Cardboard Reinhardt skin and several other fan-favorite outfits.

Season 12 is part of Blizzard’s ongoing efforts to reinvigorate the Overwatch 2 experience and attract both new and returning players. The development team is exploring various ways to enhance gameplay, including the potential return of 6v6 matches without compromising queue times or visual clarity.

Overwatch 2 Season 12: New Frontiers launches on August 20, bringing a fresh wave of content and excitement to the game.
