Apple is reportedly working on integrating generative AI into its future products, particularly in the development of a new “personality” for robotic devices. This project seeks to build a next level interface that could outperform Siri on iPhones.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, who has a reliable track record with Apple-related news, recently revealed more about this project. He mentioned that Apple is in the early stages of designing a tabletop robot with this new AI-driven personality.

Unlike Siri, this personality would be more human-like and could potentially operate across various future Apple robotics. Gurman also mentioned that Apple intends to keep the cost of this tabletop robot under $1,000, similar to Amazon’s Astro.

While this project is still in its infancy, with no certainty that it will reach consumers, it’s clear that Apple is determined to drive AI progress. The company’s focus isn’t just on robotics; it extends to the broader integration of generative AI across its devices. This includes features like text creation, summarization, and image generation, which are expected to be rolled out to iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers later this year.

As Apple explores generative AI further, creating this robot personality could mark a major shift in how we interact with technology. The goal is to create a more natural and capable assistant that could potentially outperform Siri in conversation and functionality.

However, for now, much of Apple’s AI power will come from ChatGPT, suggesting the company still has some work to do before releasing its own generative AI chatbot.
