Black Myth: Wukong stuns with 18 million copies sold fast

Black Myth: Wukong, a Chinese mythology-inspired action RPG. In just two weeks since its release, the game has sold an impressive 18 million copies, solidifying its position as one of the fastest-selling games in recent history.

Record-Breaking Sales and Player Engagement

The game’s popularity has skyrocketed, surpassing initial expectations. Within the first four days of launch, Black Myth: Wukong had already sold 10 million copies. This early success put it ahead of other major titles like Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy. The momentum continued, with an additional 8 million copies sold over the following ten days.

What’s truly remarkable is the level of player engagement. On average, gamers are spending over 27 hours in the world of Black Myth: Wukong. Considering the main story takes about 25 hours to complete, it’s clear that players are thoroughly enjoying the experience and exploring all the game has to offer.

Game Science, the studio behind this breakthrough hit, isn’t resting on its laurels. They’re already working on an expansion for Black Myth: Wukong, planning to give players even more content to dive into. This strategy mirrors the approach taken by other successful games like Elden Ring, which saw renewed interest with its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

The game’s success has caught the attention of industry analysts, with some estimating its revenue at around $800 million. This puts Black Myth: Wukong in the company of gaming giants like Grand Theft Auto 5 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It’s an incredible achievement for a new IP from a relatively unknown studio.
