Flappy Bird Set to Fly Again with New Modes and Multiplayer Fun

The popular mobile game Flappy Bird is making a return, over a decade after its rapid success and unexpected removal. This time, the game comes back under new management, offering a bigger experience while still keeping its original charm.

A New Chapter for a Beloved Classic

The Flappy Bird Foundation, a group of dedicated fans, has acquired the rights to the original game. They’re not stopping there – they’ve also secured the rights to Piou Piou vs. Cactus, the 2011 game that reportedly inspired Flappy Bird’s creation.

This fall, players can expect to see Flappy Bird on multiple platforms, with Android and iOS versions following in 2025. While initial plans suggested an exclusive launch on Telegram, this detail has since been removed from official communications.

More Than Just Tapping

The new Flappy Bird isn’t content with simply recreating the past. Players can look forward to a more feature-rich experience, including:

  • New game modes
  • Character skins
  • A progression system
  • Multiplayer challenges

Michael Roberts, the creative lead behind this revival, expressed enthusiasm for the project. “We’re bringing back Flappy Bird and delivering a fresh experience that will keep players engaged for years to come,” he said.

The team behind the remake is walking a fine line, aiming to expand the game while preserving the simple charm that made the original a global phenomenon. They’ve promised to “revamp the game’s ecosystem while maintaining the familiarity of the game design that was enjoyed globally.”

Flappy Bird’s original run was as short as it was intense. Launched in 2013, it skyrocketed to the top of app store charts by early 2014, amassing over 50 million downloads. However, creator Dong Nguyen removed the game just weeks later, citing concerns over its addictive nature and the stress of sudden fame.

In the wake of its removal, countless clones flooded app stores. Many offered technical improvements but struggled to capture the ineffable appeal of the original.

This new iteration of Flappy Bird faces the challenge of recapturing that magic while offering something new to a gaming landscape that has evolved significantly since 2014. Time will tell if this little bird can soar once again.
