Google Workspace users can now generate custom images directly within Google Docs using advanced AI technology powered by Gemini. This new feature gives creative features similar to Microsoft’s AI art tools in Office applications.
The image generation tool is exclusively available for premium subscribers with specific plans including Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium.
Users can access this feature from the Insert menu by selecting Image followed by “Help me create an image.” A given sidebar opens up where users input their desired image description. The tool offers various artistic styles from realistic photography to hand-drawn sketches. Images can be customized in square, horizontal, or vertical formats to suit different document needs, from simple flyers to comprehensive brochures. The tool also supports full-width cover images for pageless documents.
The technology behind this feature utilizes Google’s advanced Imagen 3 generator, delivering enhanced image quality through improved detail and lighting effects while minimizing unwanted visual artifacts. This update follows the previous integration of AI-powered presentation generators in Google Slides through Duet AI.
The rollout begins today for rapid release domains and may take up to 15 days for full implementation. Users on scheduled release domains will start receiving this feature from December 16th.
