Microsoft and Intel are reportedly having issues, which could be slowing down plans for the next Xbox. While Microsoft hasn’t officially announced a new console, industry insiders say the company has already started working on a successor to the Xbox Series X/S, which came out five years ago.
Some sources say Sony’s success with the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro has pressured Microsoft to speed up work on its next console. But this rush might be creating serious problems behind the scenes.
Partnership Problems
Multiple insiders have shared that tensions between Microsoft and Intel are growing. One Intel representative expressed frustration about Microsoft apparently backing out of previous agreements: “Microsoft just f***ed us. I guess now we know that their ‘letters of intent’ mean absolutely nothing.” The source said this issue has caused frustration at Intel and may have strained relationships with other partner companies as well.
A Microsoft employee added concerning details about internal confusion: “I honestly have no idea what’s going on with management here anymore. We are at least a year behind Sony in SoC development by now, and it almost seems like upper management’s seen some metric that’s making them doubt our ability to compete with another generation.”
Launch Timeline Uncertain
Another Microsoft insider confirmed that a new Xbox generation will eventually launch but stressed that the company is facing major challenges. “The earliest we can do a proper next-gen would be 2027, and anything before that would either be a ‘new kind of Xbox’ or absurdly rushed.”

This delay means Microsoft is falling behind Sony’s rumored PlayStation 6 development. If Sony launches first, it could give them a big advantage.
This information hasn’t been officially confirmed by Microsoft. But if true, these issues could mean a longer wait for the next Xbox while Sony keeps gaining ground.
