Nintendo Faces Backlash for Ignoring Original Creators

The HD remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns is under fire for how it credits the original creators. Forever Entertainment, the team behind the remaster, gave only a quick mention of the original developers, saying the game was “based on the work of the original development staff.”

This situation is similar to what happened in 2023 with Metroid Prime Remastered. Retro Studios, the original developers, weren’t credited either. One of the creators, Jack Mathews, who was the technical lead engineer, shared how upset he was, saying it hurt knowing his kids wouldn’t see his name in a game he worked so hard on.

Industry Concerns Grow

This controversy raises bigger questions about how Nintendo handles game credits. The company has been criticized before for leaving out contractors and translators who contributed to their games. These choices affect the people who put their skills into creating games fans love. Even with growing concerns from the gaming community and industry experts, Nintendo hasn’t responded or addressed the issue.
