Nintendo Switch 2 May Launch in June with Up to 8 Million Units Ready

Industry analysts have told Bloomberg they predict the Nintendo Switch 2 will achieve the biggest console launch in history, despite an anticipated price tag between $399 and $499.

According to a group of analysts who maintain regular communication with Nintendo and its partners, expectations are exceptionally high for the new console. Robin Zhu from Sanford C. Bernstein projects a June launch, aligning with previous reports and following a similar timeline to the original Switch release.

Zhu estimates that Nintendo will have 6-8 million Switch 2 units ready at launch, which is a huge number. Nintendo delayed the console to 2025 to make sure they had enough stock and to help prevent scalpers from buying up units and reselling them at higher prices.

Record-Breaking Potential

Nintendo is producing way more Switch 2 units than past console launches. The original Switch sold 2.7 million in its first month, and the PlayStation 5 sold 4.5 million in its first quarter. Analyst Serkan Toto expects the Switch 2 to sell extremely well early on, thanks to strong games and third-party support, saying they’ll sell “boatloads” of them, no matter the price.

Price Point Considerations

Analysts told Bloomberg they all expect the Switch 2 to start at $399, but some think it could go up to $449 or even $499 because of higher part costs and possible U.S. tariffs. If it costs $499, it would be the same price as a regular PlayStation 5 and $50 more than the digital-only PS5.

Nintendo fans should tune in to the Switch 2 Direct livestream on April 2. The company is expected to announce the launch date, price, and game lineup.
