I’ve just received confirmation that several major retailers have revealed their specific Nintendo Switch 2 preorder times following Nintendo’s announcement that US preorders will begin April 24th before the June 5th launch.
GameStop will start in-store preorders when doors open on April 24th, while their online preorders begin at 11AM ET that same day. They’re planning midnight release events, with stores opening at 12AM ET on June 5th (9PM PT on June 4th) for the console launch.
Both Target and Walmart have set their preorder kickoff for April 24th at 12AM ET. This timing applies to consoles, games, and accessories at Target. Walmart has promised delivery before 9AM on launch day for those who preorder by 8AM ET on June 4th, though they note this depends on available supply.
Other Retailer Information
Best Buy hasn’t specified an exact time, but their website indicates preorders for the console, games and accessories will be available April 24th through their mobile app and website. Like GameStop, most Best Buy locations plan to open at midnight ET on launch day for preorder pickup.
I’m still waiting to hear if Amazon will offer preorders and when they might begin.
Pricing and Background
Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 will maintain its previously announced pricing – $449.99 for the standard console and $499.99 for the bundle including Mario Kart World. However, accessories have seen price increases, with both the Switch 2 Joy-Con and Pro Controller costing $5 more than originally stated.
It’s worth noting that Nintendo initially planned to begin preorders on April 9th but delayed them to evaluate potential tariff impacts and market conditions. They’ve also indicated that future price adjustments remain possible depending on market conditions.
