Nintendo Switch Hits 150 Million Sales and Makes Gaming History

The Nintendo Switch just hit a huge milestone, selling over 150 million units, the first console to do so in 13 years. This was revealed in Nintendo’s latest financial report, covering the first nine months of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. With this achievement, the Switch now ranks among the most successful gaming systems ever.

Breaking Down Nintendo’s Success

The Nintendo Switch is now the third best-selling gaming console of all time. At the top of the list is Sony’s PlayStation 2 with over 160 million units sold, followed by Nintendo’s DS, which has a little over 150 million sales. The Switch is only 4 million units away from passing the DS and taking second place. The DS became a hit thanks to its unique dual-screen design and affordable price.

Software and Recent Performance

Nintendo’s games are still selling strong, with total sales reaching 1.3 billion units. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to shine, adding 5.38 million more copies and bringing its total to 67.35 million. Super Mario Party Jamboree set a new record as the fastest-selling game in the series, with 6.17 million copies sold. However, not everything is going up, Switch console sales have dropped by 30.6% compared to last year, and game sales are down by 24.4%.

Nintendo has officially announced its next-generation console, the Switch 2, and gamers are already excited. More details will be revealed during a Nintendo Direct event on April 2. The price hasn’t been announced yet, but there’s talk that US tariffs could affect how much it will cost.
