I’m excited to share that PlayStation Plus has just confirmed its first free game for June. FBC: Firebreak, the multiplayer spinoff of Control developed by Remedy Entertainment, will be available on PlayStation Plus Extra from day one of its launch.
Day 1 releases have been a feature on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus services. While Xbox includes all first-party releases on Game Pass at launch, PlayStation Plus has hosted several excellent third-party titles from their release dates. Games like Stray, Animal Well, and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage all arrived on the service on their launch days.
About FBC: Firebreak
FBC: Firebreak is set in the Control universe, taking place after the events of the original game. Players will join a unit of soldiers called Firebreak who venture into the Oldest House to combat enemies infected by the Hiss.
This cooperative first-person shooter supports up to three players and appears to be Remedy’s interpretation of the Left 4 Dead formula within their own universe. Given Remedy’s history of crossing characters between games, we might see familiar faces like Jesse Faden or Ahti, and possibly even hints about Control 2.
Release Details
Remedy Entertainment’s previous title was Alan Wake 2, which released in 2023. Despite having a marketing deal with Xbox, the studio plans to release FBC: Firebreak on PlayStation Plus to maximize player engagement.
The game will reportedly avoid typical live service elements like battle passes and limited-time content, instead functioning more like a traditional multiplayer game that players can enjoy at their convenience.
FBC: Firebreak launches on June 17, 2025, and will be available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation Plus Extra. Players can also purchase the game if they prefer to own it outright.
