PlayStation Starts 2025 with Free Game for Plus Subscribers

PlayStation has announced its first free game for 2025, giving gamers a taste of what’s to come in the new year. FBC: Firebreak, a cooperative first-person shooter set in the Control universe, will be available at launch for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers.

This news is great for PlayStation fans, who are already expecting a busy 2025 lineup. Major titles like Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Ghost of Yotei are confirmed for release, with potential launches of Marvel’s Wolverine, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Fairgame$ also on the horizon. Of course, GTA 6 is also slated for a 2025 release, making it a potentially expensive year for gamers.

FBC: Firebreak – A Control Spin-Off

Developed by Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind the Alan Wake series and Control, FBC: Firebreak offers an intense cooperative experience. The game puts players in the shoes of the Bureau’s Firebreak unit, tasked with restoring order to a federal agency under siege by otherworldly forces.

Players will need to navigate through the agency’s headquarters, dealing with strange crises and battling back from the brink. The game’s setting within the Control universe suggests a mix of supernatural elements and intense action, which should appeal to fans of the original game and newcomers alike.

Availability and Access

It’s important to note that FBC: Firebreak will only be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers. Unfortunately, those with a PS Plus Essential subscription won’t have access to this day-one release. The game’s availability through the service is time-limited, although the exact duration hasn’t been specified.

PlayStation is showing its focus on giving more value to higher-tier subscribers with this release. While day-one games aren’t as frequent on PlayStation Plus as on Xbox Game Pass, this addition is a nice surprise for PS5 owners wanting to get the most out of their gaming budget in 2025.

As the new year gets closer, PlayStation fans can expect more announcements and possible free games. With 2025 starting strong, PlayStation is focused on keeping players interested and excited all year long.
