Sony has just announced another round of price increases for the PS5 in Europe, the UK, Australia, and other regions. Buyers will now need to pay up to 100 more in local currency for a console. Sony points to “challenging economic conditions” including high inflation and exchange rate fluctuations as the reason behind this decision. This marks the second price increase in these markets since 2022.
Changes by Region
In Europe and the UK, only the Digital Edition sees a price change. It’s now €500 (up from €450) in Europe and £430 (up from £390) in the UK.
Australia and New Zealand face steeper increases across both PS5 models. The Digital Edition jumps to AUD $750 from AUD $650 in Australia. In New Zealand, the disc drive version now costs NZD $950, previously NZD $900. These new prices are effective immediately.
One Small Upside
I’ve found one small silver lining in this announcement. Sony is actually reducing the cost of the add-on disc drive. European buyers will now pay €80 instead of €120, while UK customers will pay £70 instead of £100.
If you were planning to buy a PS5 in these regions, you’ve unfortunately missed your chance to grab one at the lower price point.
