A reliable leaker has shared some exciting details about the Nintendo Switch 2’s display, saying it might have specs similar to the Steam Deck. That sounds impressive, but I’m staying cautious until we get official confirmation.
According to leaker “SecretBoy,” who has correctly predicted Nintendo Switch 2 specs before, the upcoming console will offer significant performance improvements. The leaker stated on Famiboards: “People should really be prepared for 3 TFLOPs docked and around half that in handheld.”
Most notably, SecretBoy claims the console will feature “a 120Hz LCD screen that supports VRR,” allowing developers to optimize games for variable refresh rates and 40 fps in handheld mode.
Gaming Community Reactions
The gaming community has responded positively but cautiously to these rumors. On Reddit, user Kieran293 noted that “120 Hz with VRR would be a game changer” for handheld gaming, making 30-60 fps gameplay more enjoyable. Another user, Calhalen, compared it to the Steam Deck OLED’s 90 Hz capability, describing portable gaming at higher refresh rates as “incredible.”
Price Concerns and Release Timeline
It’s uncertain whether Nintendo will include such a high-end display in the standard model. A 120Hz LCD screen could significantly raise costs, possibly making it too expensive for Nintendo’s core family audience.
Perhaps Nintendo plans to release multiple versions at launch, with this high-refresh display reserved for a premium model.
Fortunately, we won’t have long to wait for official details. Nintendo has scheduled a Direct presentation showcasing the Nintendo Switch 2’s features on April 2, just two weeks from now.
