Sony has made the decision to end its new PlayStation game, Concord. The game, which hit the market on August 23rd for PS5 and PC, will go offline on September 6th, barely two weeks after its launch.
Poor Reception and Low Player Count
The decision comes in the wake of disappointing sales figures, with estimates suggesting fewer than 25,000 units sold. On Steam, the game’s peak player count reached only 697, falling short of even some of the year’s least successful titles.
Refunds and Future Plans
Ryan Ellis, the game’s director, shared the news in a recent blog post. “We’re ceasing sales immediately and offering full refunds to all purchasers on PS5 and PC,” he stated. Refunds will be processed automatically through the original payment methods.
The studio is considering new strategies for the game’s direction. Although specifics are limited, there are rumors of a possible transition to a free-to-play format. This change could position Concord more competitively within the saturated hero shooter market.
After eight years of development and a $40 price point, Concord found it difficult to carve out a niche in its genre. While we wait for more news, it’s evident that the gaming industry remains challenging, even for major players like Sony.
