Activision has confirmed that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 won’t have its original free roam mode when it launches with Pro Skater 3 this July on PlayStation. Earlier hints from the PlayStation Store mentioned a “two-minute format” for the game, which had already made fans worry about possible changes.
Format Changes Confirmed
Activision told Kotaku that all levels in Pro Skater 4 have been changed to follow the two-minute format used in the first three games. Instead of freely exploring and finding challenges at your own pace, you’ll now have a set list of challenges to complete within the time limit.
What Remains
Players can still use free skate mode to practice tricks and explore levels, but all challenges must be completed within the time limit. Many longtime fans are disappointed since Pro Skater 4 was seen as the bridge between the classic games and the Underground series on PS2.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 releases on PS5 and PS4 on July 11, 2025.
