Many Ubisoft France employees have initiated a three-day strike, protesting against the company’s recent changes to work-from-home policies and compensation issues. The French game workers union STJV organized this action after Ubisoft management announced a new requirement for staff to be present in the office at least three days per week.
The union views this policy shift as a breaking point, arguing that it disrupts the work-life balance many employees had established. Ubisoft defends its decision, stating that increased office presence will enhance creativity and team collaboration. However, the company claims it will still consider individual circumstances.
This labor dispute comes at a challenging time for Ubisoft. The company’s stock value has seen a sharp decline, dropping over 10% in just two days following the release of Star Wars Outlaws. By September, Ubisoft’s share price had fallen to its lowest point in ten years, marking a 40% decrease since the start of the year.
The gaming industry is watching closely as this situation unfolds, recognizing its potential to influence workplace policies and employee relations across the sector.
