Ubisoft Shuts Down Leamington Studio After Years of Game Development

Ubisoft Leamington has officially shut down. The closure comes after news in January that the UK-based studio was hit by Ubisoft’s latest job cuts.

The studio announced this news on their LinkedIn page, expressing gratitude to their team: “We are beyond grateful to our talented team, whose creativity, passion and dedication have left a lasting mark on the games we’ve created, the memories we’ve shared and the community we’ve built in Leamington.”

Staff Changes and Industry Impact

Some remaining team members will continue working on remote contracts and may still be seen at local industry events in Leamington Spa. The closure resulted in approximately 100 job losses across both Ubisoft Leamington and Ubisoft Reflections in Newcastle. Ubisoft explained these cuts were made to “prioritize projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability.”

Studio Legacy

The studio was originally known as FreeStyleGames, creators of the DJ Hero series, before Ubisoft acquired it in 2017. Since then, they supported major Ubisoft titles including Tom Clancy’s The Division and Star Wars: Outlaws. According to previous job listings and social media posts, the team had been working on an unannounced new IP before closing down.
